Abstract:
The purpose of this research aims to understand how environments impact us both emotionally and physically.
An environment is something in which an object, animal, plant or individual inhabits or operates within. These environments have a direct connection to how we operate within them; the close attention we give our environment recognises the ability we have to shape our world and the effect the world has on us. The purpose of this research is to find understanding in the connection between environments and the emotional and physical impacts they have on us. To explore this relationship I consider the built environment; how the development of architectural styles affects us in a political sense, and the sensory impact of interior design on mental health. How environments impact on us as individuals, in a genetic sense and intergenerationally, across time and the psychological effects environments have on our unconscious minds. As well as lastly considering the modern belief that architecture and health are modifiable at a societal level, and the concurrent emergence of marketing as a science. This research intends to show the impacts environments have on individuals, as well as on a large scale societal level to allow understanding of the impact and importance of knowledge on the effects of the environments in which we live.
