Abstract:
The article discusses the flexibility and social utility of marriage in New Zealand history and the social conditions of women who got married and those who chose not to. Topics include statistics regarding married and unmarried Māori New Zealand women, an analysis of an article by author Raewyn Dalziel on the history of the social conditions of women in New Zealand and the changes that occurred in family sizes in Europe and New Zealand.
