Abstract:
This thesis comprises of 60 refereed papers and reviews on the connections and chemical anatomy of the mammalian brain and spinal cord. The papers are grouped in six separate sections and presented in two volumes. Section 1 contains papers on the connections of the mammalian brain and spinal cord. Sections 2 and 3 comprise of papers on the chemical anatomy of the human central nervous system; papers on the chemical anatomy of the human brain are presented in section 2 and papers on the chemical anatomy of the human spinal cord are presented in section 3. Section 4 contains papers on the chemical anatomy of the diseased human brain. Section 5 comprises of papers on the chemical anatomy of the basal ganglia and
other regions of the mammalian brain. Section 6 contains a series of papers which are concerned with the expression of immediate-early genes in the brain. Volume one contains sections 1 and 2, and Volume two contains sections 3, 4, 5 and 6.
