Abstract:
This paper presents the general force-displacement response of unreinforced masonry (URM) walls with flanges (return walls) responding in-plane. Results are summarised of recently completed experimentation into the response of URM shear walls responding in-plane, and failing in a diagonal tension mode followed by bed-joint sliding. Recommendations are provided for a force-displacement relationship which is consistent with the experimental data and can be used for modelling URM walls and establishing acceptance criteria such as those specified in ASCE 41-06.
