dc.description.abstract The New Zealand curriculum (Ministry of Educaiton, 2007a) and the Maori medium equivalent (Te marautanga o Aotearoa, in preparation) set the direction for learning for all students at school in New Zealand. The vision is to produce 'confident, connected, actively involved lifelong learners'. Moreover, through the implementationof the curriculum, teachers in New Zealand are expected to educate people to draw on and combine a range of skills, knowledge, and values. The role of classroom assessment is to improve students' learning and teachers' teaching in order to ensure that students reach their individual potential and deveop the competencies and dispositions they will need for further study, work, lifelong learning and to lead satisfying lives. en
