Abstract:
Members of the Saprolegniaceae were collected and isolated readily from several types of fresh water habitat near Auckland. Preliminary studies suggested that they were not active in stagnant pools, oxidation ponds or in activated sludge from digesting meat wastes.
Isolated collected were classified into 4 species. One species was identified readily as Achyla caroliniana Coker, a species with world wide distribution, the other 3 species did not agree exactly with any described species.
