Abstract:
Although community pharmacies have not traditionally focused on youth health, they have the potential to provide very accessible health services for young people. A review of the possible role of community pharmacy in health care for youth concluded that there is untapped potential to improve young people's access to health services in areas such as minor ailments, smoking cessation and sexual health through pharmacies. The role of pharmacy in the management of chronic health conditions is currently limited by the lack of a youth focus. More research is needed to explore how young people currently use pharmacies in New Zealand, what barriers exist and how these can be overcome.
