dc.description.abstract There is ongoing interest and research on how to manage communication challenges in the consultation. A new model, REBELS, developed for the New Zealand context, is presented as a framework for managing challenging situations in health care consultations. It consists of a sequence of helpful strategies to follow during the consultation. This model has been found to be useful in enhancing practitioner skills in a variety of settings and at different levels of experience. Tips are given on creating a successful teaching session using the REBELS model. en
