Abstract:
An investigation was made into the occurrence and factors affecting the occurrences of ribosomes and polyribosomes from laaves of Brassica pekinensis. Techniques for the study of these ribosomes and polyribosomes were developed.
Two separate species of ribosomes were identified in leaf extracts, having approximate sedimentation coefficients of 68 S and 83 S.
Chloroplasts isolated from leaf extracts contained only the 68 S ribosome species although only a small proportion of the total leaf content of 68 s ribosomes could be obtained from such preparations. The 68 S ribosomes were not produced as a result of breakdown of the 83 S ribosomes during preparation.
