Abstract:
Working people typically spend one-quarter to one-half of their waking hours in paid employment. And many of them invest in that work their hopes and dreams, making it a primary source of their income, their status in society, their self-esteem, and self-fulfilment. So it is not surprising that work is a primary source of individual well-being, or the lack of it. The relationship between people and their work, and the effects of work and employment on people’s well-being, are areas of continuing and indeed growing research interest.
