Abstract:
In May and June 2005, four Auckland primary schools, one from each territorial authority in the Auckland region, engaged in a pilot study of the perceived health benefits to children of Walking School Buses (WSBs). The study was an extension of the evaluations of WSBs in the Auckland region, done both in 2003 and 2004. Parent coordinators of WSBs, school principals and children were interviewed. This report provides an overview of key literature about the health benefits to children of walking to school, as well as methods, findings and conclusions from the study.
