Abstract

Summary

  1. Some changes induced in Chinese cabbage nucleic metabolism by infection with turnip yellow mosaic virus (TWMV) have been examined in the first leaf to develop systemic symptoms. This leaf was used in an attempt to avoid wounding effects, and its characteristics have been defined to allow infection-induced changes to be related to the stags of leaf development, the time course of infection and virus increase, and the onset of microscopic and macroscopic symptom and stunting effects. In some experiments, where effects at a late stage of infection where studied, leaves showing mosaic symptoms were used.
