Abstract

This article explains the cultural context of Te Pāti Māori MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke's haka in parliament in protest of the Treaty Principles bill for a non-Māori audience. It then explains the social and political situation in which the Treaty Principles bill has been proposed and why it has produced such a strong backlash.
