Abstract

This research briefing note draws on findings from the Uiuinga Tiaki Taiohi o Aotearoa – The New Zealand Youth Safety Survey (NZYSS):

Young people are experiencing hate violence and hate speech at alarming levels Sexuality and gender are the most frequently targeted characteristics Young people are not safe from hate speech or hate violence in public or at home Young people are unlikely to report hate speech or hate violence to police.
